Uganda Gorilla Chimpanzee Trekking
Safari Overview
Step into the misty realms of Uganda’s legendary Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Kibale National Park on this exhilarating 6 Day Uganda Gorilla & Chimpanzee Trek. This is not merely a wildlife viewing expedition. It is a profound encounter with our closest living relatives. You will trek through dense, ancient jungles to spend one unforgettable hour with a family of mountain gorillas, a species so rare that fewer than 1,100 individuals remain on Earth. You will also track habituated chimpanzees as they swing through the canopy, their calls echoing through the trees. Between these primate encounters, you will unwind on the serene shores of Lake Bunyonyi, often called the Switzerland of Africa, and cross the Equator for a memorable photo opportunity. Africa Exotic Safaris has designed this itinerary to balance adventure with comfort, ensuring that each day brings you closer to nature without compromising on warm hospitality. From the moment you land at Entebbe International Airport to your final farewell, every detail is handled with professional care. Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi – The Ultimate Primate Encounter, Then Lake Bunyonyi Relaxation

Uganda Gorilla Chimpanzee Trekking
This is the day you have traveled across the world for. You will wake before sunrise, eat a hearty breakfast, and pack your day pack with water, snacks, and rain gear. Walk or drive to the park headquarters for registration and allocation to a specific gorilla family. There are over 20 habituated families in Bwindi, each with its own story. You will join a group of no more than eight trekkers, accompanied by armed rangers and trackers. The trek can take anywhere from one to six hours depending on where the gorillas nested the previous night. You will hike through thick undergrowth, sometimes using machetes to clear the path. Then, the radio crackles. The trackers have found them. Your heart races as you approach. Suddenly, you see a massive silverback resting against a tree, his fur black and silver in the dappled light. A juvenile tumbles past. A mother nurses her newborn. You are given exactly one hour to observe, photograph, and absorb this incredible connection. No words fully capture the feeling of a gorilla’s intelligent eyes meeting yours.
After the trek, you will return to the lodge for a well deserved lunch. Then, you will check out and drive approximately two hours to Lake Bunyonyi, one of the deepest lakes in Africa. The afternoon light paints the terraced hillsides in shades of gold and green. You will check into your lake side lodge and have the rest of the day free to relax. You may choose to take a gentle canoe ride, swim in the bilharzia free waters, or simply sit on your veranda watching fisherman paddle their dugout canoes. As the sun sets behind the hills, dinner is served with a view over the calm lake. This peaceful evening offers a perfect contrast to the morning’s intense jungle adventure.

The road winds through the lush Kigezi highlands, past rolling hills and traditional homesteads. You will stop in Mbarara for a mid morning break. Then, continue to the famous Equator crossing point at Kayabwe. Here you will have a memorable lunch stop at a local restaurant. After eating, you can stand with one foot in the northern hemisphere and the other in the southern hemisphere. Local guides will demonstrate a simple water experiment showing how the Coriolis effect causes water to drain straight down exactly on the Equator. This is a fun and educational photo opportunity. You will also have time to browse the craft shops for souvenirs. After lunch, you will continue to Entebbe, arriving at Entebbe International Airport in the late afternoon. Your Africa Exotic Safaris guide will assist you with check in for your departure flight.
