After a hearty breakfast, you will drive north for approximately three hours to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. This is a comfortable drive with a rest stop halfway. Upon arrival, you will meet your armed ranger who will lead your family on a walking safari to find the southern white rhinos. Unlike a vehicle safari, walking allows children to see tracks, dung, and learn how rhinos live. You will approach a rhino family from a safe distance, guided by the ranger. The children will be amazed at how large these animals are. After the walk, enjoy a picnic lunch at the sanctuary. In the afternoon, you can take a short canoe ride on the sanctuary’s small lake or visit the shoebill stork viewing platform. Then, you will drive to Murchison Falls National Park, arriving at your family lodge in the late afternoon. The lodge has a swimming pool and family tents or rooms. Dinner is served in the main dining area, with a special children’s menu available.

Wake early for a sunrise game drive on the northern banks of the Nile. The drive lasts about three hours, which is ideal for young attention spans. Your guide will search for elephants, giraffes, lions, and hartebeests. Children will love counting the different animals they see. Return to the lodge for a late breakfast and some pool time. After lunch, you will embark on a family friendly launch cruise up the Nile to the base of Murchison Falls. The boat is covered, so children are protected from the sun. You will see hundreds of hippos, crocodiles basking on sandbanks, and elephants drinking at the water’s edge. The highlight is the falls themselves: the entire Nile river forced through a seven meter gap, creating a roar and a permanent rainbow. The captain will hold the boat steady for photos. After the cruise, you can drive to the top of the falls for a short walk to the viewpoint. Return to the lodge for dinner and perhaps a storytelling session around the campfire.

After checking in, take a gentle guided walk along the forest edge where you may spot red colobus monkeys and black and white colobus monkeys.
